General Mark Inch acted as former director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons for a short period of time. Governor DeSantis of Florida has now appointed Inch to head the Florida Department of Corrections. Inch specializes in prison management and has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Correctional Association. Inch is also a retired U.S. Army major general with recent service abroad.
The Florida Prison System does not work- – it is inefficient, outdated, offers inmates very few rehabilitation opportunities which therefore contributes to recidivism. Many of these problems are not unique to Florida but exist in the federal system as well.
The leadership in Washington finally got the message and recently passed the First Step Act which will implement a number of prison reforms with a new focus on rehabilitation. Mark Inch supports the First Step Act and as a result many are hoping that Florida will lead the nation as an example for positive change.
